U.S. Moves to Challenge China's Rare-Earth Magnet Dominance

REalloys partners with JS Link to develop the first fully integrated North American rare-earth magnet supply chain, from raw materials to finished products.

REalloys and permanent magnet manufacturer JS Link have announced a strategic partnership aimed at establishing one of the first fully vertically integrated rare-earth magnet production platforms based in North America. The agreement consolidates feedstock sourcing, material separation, metallization, and permanent magnet manufacturing operations under a single domestic industrial strategy, marking a significant step toward reducing U.S. dependence on Chinese-manufactured rare-earth magnets.

Permanent magnets represent a critical component across defense, energy, and emerging technology sectors, powering guided weapons systems, military aircraft, submarines, industrial robotics, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and renewable wind energy installations. China has historically maintained substantial control over rare-earth magnet production and supply chains, creating potential vulnerabilities for U.S. manufacturers and defense capabilities.

The REalloys-JS Link partnership reflects growing momentum among U.S. policymakers and industry leaders to develop domestic alternatives for critical mineral processing and advanced manufacturing. Such vertically integrated operations within North America could strengthen supply chain resilience and reduce geopolitical risks associated with heavy reliance on foreign rare-earth magnet suppliers.
